The Calendar Has 11 Months

Create a Marketing Calendar!

Restaurant Profits is a direct marketing company and we market out to customers on behalf of restaurants. One major concern for restaurant owners is 'what am I going to say to my customers'. So we develop a marketing calendar on their behalf.

If you have never had a marketing calendar and you're worried about what you can say to your customers, start by taking a look at the calendar for your country.

What happens in January in the country that you are in, and in February, March and so on? In Australia in January we have Australia Day, in February around the world it's Valentine's Day, in March around the world it's St Patrick's Day. So make sure you look at the calendar for what's going on in the world, then bring it down to what country you are in, then bring it down to what state and city you are in and look at what's happening there.

In Australia there is only one month with no major 'thing' happening and that is August. Often in August we'll look for something that's more local or personal to the restaurant owner. It might be the restaurant owners birthday or their wife's birthday or their husband's birthday, it could be their wedding anniversary or the anniversary of the restaurant opening, and so on.

So make sure you use all eleven months that are already in the calendar such as Mother's Day, Father's Day. And, if like us in Australia, you don't have anything in August, then make sure you work out in advance what you can talk to your customers about that month.

Take aways:

  • Develop a marketing calendar.
  • Look at the events globally and locally.
  • Make sure you use all the events already in the calendar:- Mother's Day, Father's Day etc.
  • Any free months, think more personal:- owner's birthday or anniversaries.
