Why you should give incentives to your restaurant staff.
One of the easiest ways to create more profit for your restaurant without having to increase your costs, is to sell more products to people while they’re already in the restaurant. That way, you don’t have to pay for marketing, promotions or advertising.
A great way to do it is to incentivise your staff to become better sales people. Start with desserts which are easy to measure. Firstly work out on how many desserts you normally sell on each shift. For example, if you normally sell forty desserts on a Friday. Explain to your staff that “After you hit that forty mark, every dessert that’s sold, the person that sells earns a dollar” or “After we’ve hit that forty mark we’re going to tally up who sells the most desserts and they’re going to win a prize”.
Let’s face it, if somebody is going to be able to boost their take home pay by a dollar per sale, then that’s a great incentive for them to do well… and a really good way for you to increase the restaurant’s profits. Do not do this all the time. Do it for a while then stop, then do it for a while again. That way your staff don’t get bored, because, “familiarity breeds contempt”. Do it every now and again. This will add some fun, staff will earn extra money and you will make more profit.
